Fine Arts

At Bethesda, we believe that the study of art, music and drama enriches the lives of our students and enhances their ability to see and appreciate God's creative nature.
ART
We are privileged to have one of the nation's top editorial cartoonists leading our art department. Gary Varvel is an award-winning editorial cartoonist for the Indianapolis Star whose syndicated work appears in the Washington Times, Detroit Free Press, USA Today, Newsweek and on CNN. Art students learn basic drawing skills, rendering techniques, perspective and the use of light and shadow. The curriculum includes both 2-D and 3-D art in a variety of mediums including pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, acrylic and ceramics. Classes consist of studio work, demonstrations, videos and critiques.
MUSIC
We believe that God has given musical talent to our students for their enjoyment and for ministry in His kingdom. Therefore, music education is an important part of the curriculum at Bethesda Christian Schools. Musical opportunities include vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as choirs and bands for students at elementary, junior high and senior high levels. In addition, Bethesda students participate annually in a Music Showcase, the Indiana Association of Christian Schools (IACS) Academic and Fine Arts Meet and the Indiana State Schools Music Association (ISSMA) solo and ensemble contest.
The new acoustically designed Music Department in the recently built Ministry and Athletic Center provides an ideal setting for music instruction.

DRAMA
Bethesda also offers several opportunities for students to take part in dramatic activities other than those offered in our English classes. These activities include speech competition at the Indiana Association of Christian Schools (IACS) Academic and Fine Arts Meet and school plays.
